About me:
Ryan Nolan is a Research Fellow at the University of Exeter Business School who studies how organisations and institutions navigate the twin crises of climate change and nature loss. Grounded in organisation theory, he investigates the ebbs and flows of sustainability fields and the strategic practices through which nature-positive, low-carbon futures are enacted. Combining qualitative inquiry with computational analysis, his work links everyday interactions to field-wide change and offers insights that help scholars, policymakers, and businesses build regenerative futures.
Ryan joined Exeter in 2022 and is currently part of the NERC-funded RENEW project (Theme 4: Business and Finance), supporting efforts to align business practice with the UK’s climate and nature goals. He previously contributed to the delivery of the UKRI Circular Economy Hub, part of the National Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Research Programme. He is a member of the Exeter Centre for Circular Economy and the Exeter Centre for Leadership, where he contributes to research and executive education.
He serves on the editorial board of The Sociological Review and regularly authors practitioner and policy-facing publications.
